I created Studio Browne to create spaces that have something to say. I am drawn to the overlooked and am a fan of the bridge between high-end modernism and the lived-in look of the past. I am bored with the repeated palettes, the safe beige consensus, the same ten ideas passed around by a stale industry. I didn’t start a studio to join that conversation. Every project, from heritage restorations to ground-up architectural builds, is treated as a cohesive narrative. I approach my work looking at the total picture; there needs to be a cohesive narrative. It isn’t about filling rooms; it is about tuning them. Material honesty and spatial harmony, and get rid of everything that’s only there because it’s expected. My inspiration comes in many forms — the rhythm of a song, the prose of a favorite book, the raw texture of unlacquered brass. Many forms, but never from a catalog, a trend report, or somebody else’s mood board. The work I do is curated, deeply personal, and a little defiant.
